about

A river that runs through Goyu is lined on either side with sakura trees, and the day I crossed this particularly scenic spot was at just the perfect time to watch the petals fall; the sun was out (for once), families were playing and picnicking, and the whole view was breath-taking; I decided to spend the rest of the day there. The Japanese are very enthusiastic about the sakura, and a lot of people that I met along the Tōkaidō specifically asked me if I was going to watch them fall. This is actually the only recording I made due to the location’s visual beauty (rather than because of its soundscape or historical literary significance, etc.), and I buried my microphones amongst the dead leaves on the ground to catch the micro-sound of the sakura petals falling; if you concentrate you can maybe hear a slight crackling.
